Webbys Update

We've just heard some great news from the folks at the 13th Webby Awards 2009. We are officially one of 5 titles competing in the category of Best Experimental & Weird, which includes shows produced by MTV and the Sundance Channel. We need your help to win a People's Voice Award! It's easy to vote - just go to http://pv.webbyawards.com/ballot/home/82 and register.

The 13th Webby Awards will be held this Jun 8th in NY, officially closing this year's Internet Week. Of the nearly 10,000 entries submitted to this years Webbys, fewer than 15% were distinguished as Official Honorees. The Los Angeles Times calls The Webbys "the only award show for Internet sites that matters" and the BBC has said that the award "has come to represent the best on the Web."

As always, we want to thank our amazing fans for your continued support.

Episode 13 Released November 4th, 2008

Episode 13 is now available online.

As the poles start to close, and the nation slowly begins to learn the results of the 2008 American Presidential Election, we return to the Carlyal Corporation's Secret Operations Center to see how they are viewing the results. They may have lost this time, but it is only a small piece of their larger plans.

This has been a great season for us at Deleted: The Game. Since we began in August, we've been encouraged and inspired by the incredible devotion of our fans. We started at the myspace page of a pretty young amnesiac, and ended up embroiled in a plot to take over the American electoral system. There have been some great moments for us, including a concert by Tyler Mills, a live kidnapping, as well as our final cameo 'appearance' by our winning player, emiliaci.

We hope that you've enjoyed watching and playing. You'll hear more from us soon...

Episode 12 is now available online. We are pleased to announce that emiliaci, the winner of Deleted: The Game appears in a cameo role - as herself. Emiliaci was not eager to appear on screen, but agreed to act in our episode on the condition that we never show her face. She also graciously allowed us to interview her about her playing experience.

Congratulations to Colmy_DD who won the final bonus challenge for this season of Deleted: The Game.

Now the USB drives have been switched, and Ethan, Josephine, and Zach seem to have prevailed. But have they saved the elections? And what is Carlyal's next move? Find out in our season finale, airing November 4th, 2008.

Also, congratulations to our runners up, Schrijvertje and Irene.Adler, as well as Yoji, who won this week's challenge. They will all be receiving prizes for their hard work.

We want to thank you all for playing. We've seen a variety of wonderful interactions with our characters and among our players. We hope that you've enjoyed yourselves, and that you've all taken something from this experience. This week, we are offering one last game for players as we tie up the season, and will be sending a small prize to the first person who can correctly figure out how Ethan, Josephine, and Zach, can access the USB drives Carlyal is using to rig election results.

This week, players have gotten even closer to stopping Carlyal. But will Ethan, Josephine, and Zach be able to act quickly enough to preserve democracy? Stay tuned to find out.

Thanks for playing,

Congratulations to caseyams for piecing together Carlyal's plan before anyone else.

Game 7 in Review

This week, a player brought an important detail to my attention. In an account we had created as a game piece, an email came in from a scam artist. These are common emails that most people receive every day and usually delete without reading, but given the game context it seemed like a possible game piece. This particular email was not part of our game, and I hope none of you were adversely affected by it. Never give out any personal identification information or bank account numbers online. We will only ask you for basic contact information when necessary, and we will never share this with anyone. Guard your identity carefully.

In the game, players had to help Josephine decide whether or not to trust Ethan. While everyone has their own opinion, nobody was able to find definitive evidence, although they are much closer than they realize. They have all the necessary pieces you… now they just need to figure out how to put them together.

Thanks for playing,

Game 6 in Review

This week, you've uncovered more evidence that suggests a dark past for one of our characters. But as Carlyal draws closer, who will you decide to trust?

Don't forget to submit your answers on our website to receive points for participating. We continue to grade scores for old questions.

Our winner this week was emiliaci. Congratulations!

Game 5 in Review

This week started off with an explosion of comments from our players. We've tried to address the many issues that were brought up in planning for our coming games, and hope that you will see the improvement. Our decisions last week were sudden, and we hope that you will enjoy how these changes allow our story to move in a new direction.

By contrast, our interactions this week felt smoother and more focused than they have ever been before. We've noted the request to encourage more group play - we have attracted competitors who show kindness and encouragement not only to our characters, but also to each other.

Congratulation to Schrijvertje, who had our highest score this week.

Thanks for playing,

Game 4 in Review

This past week has been tough for us at Deleted: The Game, and tested our vision of creating a story in collaboration with our audience.

Since the conception of Deleted: The Game, our goal has been to create a truly interactive media experience. Mainstream entertainment today often encourages partial audience participation (voting for contestants online or by text message, hiding supplemental film material in online games, etc). We promised to take this a step further, by having the action or inaction of our players influence the way our story unfolds: a genuine collaboration between the producers and audience.

In Game 4, players were meant to help Ethan warn Tyler not to go to their planned meeting place. The only way to do so was by finding the number of Tyler's prepaid cell phone. Unfortunately, nobody made it far enough down that trail to find the number. After much consideration, we decided to let the actions of the players be felt. Yesterday, players Yoji and Irene.Adler attended a live interaction that began with them meeting Ethan at the Bedford stop of New York's L-train. I'll let Yoji and Irene.Adler relate their own accounts of what ensued, but they essentially witnessed the demise of our lead character. Tyler has been deleted.

With Tyler gone, we've reassessed how Deleted should play, and we've decided that from Game 5 on, we will be discarding the 'Circles of Friendship' system since it essentially revolved around Tyler. Players will still earn points that will be used to determine the winners of the weekly prizes and the grand prize of a cameo.

To fill the void left by Tyler, other characters are going to ask for your help. You will have to establish new friendships and confidences again, sometimes with the least likely allies. As many learned with Tim Daniels, nothing is ever as it seems. We hope you enjoy these adjustments, and remember to play carefully - everybody wants something, and the stakes are high.

Finally, we will be putting up an obituary site for Tyler, so please drop by and write a eulogy. She will be missed.

Game 3 in Review

This week marked our first live interaction for Deleted: The game. I was pleased to see players among the audience at Caffe Vivaldi, and hope that they enjoyed the performance by Dov and Tyler. You can get one of Tyler's CDs if you make a donation to one of Tyler's charities at justgive.org. For those of you who couldn't make it this week, there will be more in the future, and we hope to see you there.

Congratulations to Miramont, who had the highest score this week.

Game 2 in Review

This week, you've helped Tyler decide who to trust. Now it's time for her to act on your choices.

Our winner this week was emiliaci, who unraveled Ethan's message in record time and provided very clear evidence that the message was indeed from Ethan. We will be sending out a prize to emiliaci.

Don't forget to submit your answers through the form on deletedthegame.com, or they won't be counted. It is not too late to answer unanswered questions from previous weeks.

Thanks for playing.

Game 1 in Review

As our first game comes to a close, and we wait for the second episode to upload, I had a few thoughts to sum up the week. I’ve been very happy with how far players have come, and their curiosity in exploring every angle that they find. But I should also note that nobody so far has come up with a complete correct answer. As I’ve stated before in press materials and at our launch party, our games are meant to include both puzzles and interactions – and a large part of the puzzle is still waiting to be discovered. Many players have come close to finding it, but nobody has managed to unlock it yet.

I’ve also been getting a lot of questions about points, and when they will be posted. We will be waiting until the end of the week to avoid players duplicating each other’s answers.

And last, but not least, congratulations to Aerobabe for the highest score this week. We will be sending you an autographed poster.

Thanks for playing… I’ll be watching.

Busy filming!

We're right on track for our launch this Aug 15, 2008.

Right now, cast and crew are running about NY on an intense film schedule making sure we have enough content to edit whatever trajectory our viewers want to take the story in the opening act. The team is also very excited to see where our largest non-NY audience comes from as we're planning to do a location shoot there, just as a tribute to those fans. So SF, Chicago, Miami, London, Berlin, Moscow or Seoul, it could be you. FYI, we've just completed subtitling in Russian and Korean ;-)

We are grateful to everyone that's participating in the pre-launch games and helping us flesh out our characters' online presences. Tyler has a very nice MySpace presence now and things in the back story are filling out. We're about 80 percent there. The game team is eagerly waiting to see where our largest non-NY audience is too as they've plans for a final live interaction there. I know the guys are rooting for Berlin, as a consolation for Germany not winning the Euro Cup :-p

The games people play ...

... in case those of you anticipating the show this Aug 15 2008, don't know, we already have 150+ registered players who are actively playing games that build the back story for the show.

For example, there are some people trying to match make Tyler and Ethan since they have yet to meet, how can one engineer some romance between two people who have never met? Then there are others searching for Zach, they think he is in Germany but where and how to contact him?

How can you get interactive? You've got to register at www.deletedthegame.com to play. Then, go look at the websites under Resources and you'll figure it out ;-)

Hint hint ... Ethan and Zach started a new company

It's got something to do with protecting people's identities from being stolen and apparently they have a beta (i.e. draft) website up already.

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

Hint hint ... Tyler has started vlogging

It's not too hard to find her vlog, it's somewhere obvious :-)
